As long-standing admirers of the work that the member groups of the Nationwide Association of Blood Bikes carry out every day, Bridgestone has come to the charity’s aid by way of an exclusive tyre discount.
The world’s number one tyre and rubber company is offering £20 off each pair of tyres sold to a the groups’, all of whose volunteers give their time to support the blood bike movement and provide the NHS with an invaluable service. The Nationwide Association of Blood Bikes (NABB), consists of 31-member charities which cover almost every area of the UK and support local hospitals by delivering blood and other essential medical supplies every night and all day at weekends and bank holidays.
Every journey is free to the NHS and last year alone, a record breaking 73,617 journeys were completed, which would have been carried out by taxis or courier services at a huge cost to hospitals were the blood bikes not around.
Bridgestone’s motorcycle product manager Gary Hartshorne said: “We know what a vital role the Nationwide Association of Blood Bikes plays for so many people. Without their indispensable work, it is not an over-exaggeration to say that lives could be lost. With this in mind, we wanted to offer the gesture of a £20 discount for any pair of Bridgestone tyres purchased in the future. We hope that the money saved will make a difference, as we know that the charities are run purely on donations.”
The NABB member groups cover the UK, now with over 3,000 volunteers riding, shift controlling and fundraising to keep the fleet of 260 liveried blood bikes and cars on the road. Interestingly, blood is not the only item carried by riders, with e.g. samples for analysis and urgent medication also delivered.
Chair of the Nationwide Association of Blood Bikes Peter Robertson said: “Every penny counts so this really is a generous gesture from Bridgestone and one that we all appreciate. Bridgestone is also a trusted, premium brand and is synonymous with safety, so to be able to fit their products to our bikes is also very important in keeping our riders as safe as they can possibly be.”
